Stop #1: Streeters: The Greatest Bar Under Earth

There’s something about a bar in a basement.  There is no such thing as a classy basement bar and I guess that’s what makes me feel like I’m back in college hanging out at someone’s house throwing a few back waiting for the chicks to show up when I’m at Streeters.

Streeter’s (50 E. Chicago Ave) is no different.  You walk down the steps and immediately get slapped in the face with the beautiful smell of beer and cheap cleaning products and enter a time-warp of out-dated beer signage and sports paraphernalia.  They say that your sense of smell has the strongest memory and upon entering this place I’m immediately reminded of my friends Chris Plyman and Dave Simon who always took it upon themselves to clean up our fraternity house in college – using those same cheap ass cleaning products.

Bring your paddle and stick because they also have a ping pong and pool table.  Or just buy some beer in a plastic cup because they’re not opposed to a raging game of beer pong breaking out.  There’s also a DJ booth so people can get loaded and grind on each other late at night.

As for food, you’re stuck with ordering dogs and Italian Beef sandwiches from Downtown Dogs around the corner.  I don’t know if they deliver and I’ll probably never find out.  Typical beer selection – all the common players you expect to see.

I also found this video about Streeter’s on the YouTubes.  Someone loves Streeters THAT MUCH.
